While not a flawless collection of the orchestral music of Edvard Grieg, this two-disc set is still mandatory listening for anyone who loves Grieg. The most obvious flaw in the set is the inclusion of nine of Grieg 's Lyric Pieces: the pieces themselves are beautiful and the performances by Daniel Adni are lovely but by no stretch of the imagination could they be described as orchestral music.8/

Monrad Johansen’s musical catalogue is not large. It includes several orchestral and choral works, the most ‘famous’ being Voluspå op () written for soloists, choir, and orchestra. The text was drawn from the Edda (Old Norse Poems). There are several chamber works, choral pieces, and songs.

Grieg, Schubert, and Schumann have always been my favorites, but the late Eva Knardahl was to Grieg's works as say, Alfred Brendel, Murray Perihia, or Andras Schiff are to Schubert's. These recordings are DDD which surprised me since the CD bit/K sampling rate standards completed their evolution in the early s and some of these 5/5(9).
