After the sweeping success of the first concert suite drawn from Ibsen's Peer Gynt it is not at all surprising that both the public and Edvard Grieg's publisher cried out for a second installment. While Grieg had already selected four of the finest numbers from the score's total of twenty-two, he had little trouble drawing up a second very effective concert suite. the Peer Gynt Suite No.2, Op.

Peer Gynt, incidental music by Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, written to accompany the verse drama of the same name by Norwegian writer Henrik Ibsen. The music debuted to great acclaim in when the play was first produced for the stage, and it remains among the most popular of Grieg’s.

Feb 01,  · Me neither. But I have a compilation on the Deutsche Grammophon label, which is called "Essential Classics" and this version sounds good imo. The original album from which it came, was called Edward Grieg-Peer Gynt , same label and was played by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra/ Neeme Jarvi.

Mar 09,  · The Karajan copy has two suites from Peer Gynt. Musical pieces without any of the singing movements. Then two other works which are not from Peer Gynt. The Paavo Javri is a performance of the play. I heard a performance of it last night on Classic FM. I can't recall the conductor, but it was performed by The City of Birmingham Symphony.

Other offerings of Peer Gynt just do not provide the same level of satisfaction. This CD however, offers wonderful performances by the Berliner Philharmonic, led by Herbert von Karajan. The audio quality is wonderful and is, in my opinion, superior to more recent recordings/5(61).
