Jeff Hyde was raised on the sounds of artists such as Vern Gosdin, Tom T. Hall, and The Statler Brothers - chart-toppers who wrote many of their own hits. A native of Marshall, Texas, Hyde moved to Nashville in inspired to write songs like those he admired from a young age.

Pasted into the gatefold is a four-page insert with liner notes, lyrics, and an essay, "Roots of the Blues". A1 contains two recordings on one band: "Louisiana" and "Field Song From Senegal" have been spliced together to show sonic similarities.

He helped Terrell land a new record deal with Pointblank/Virgin Records, which in released Angry Southern Gentleman, hailed as "gritty, brash, soulful roots rock" by All Music Guide.
